Elina Garanca was born on 16 September 1976 in Riga, then part of the Latvian SSR. Her mother, Anita Garanča, is a musician. She studied at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, later continuing her vocal training in Vienna and the United States. This musical environment and rigorous education set the foundation for her operatic career.

Career

Garanca’s international breakthrough came at the 2003 Salzburg Festival, where she performed Annio in La clemenza di Tito. She earned multiple Echo Klassik awards for Female Singer of the Year. Her filmography includes How Much Do You Love Me? 2005, Anna Bolena 2011, and The Whistlers 2019. She has been a guest on German talk shows such as NDR Talk Show and 3 Nach 9.
