John Stamos.

John Phillip Stamos was born on August 19, 1963, in Cypress, California, to Loretta Phillips, a model, and William Stamos, a restaurateur. His father was of Greek descent, with the family surname originally being Stamatopoulos.

Stamos grew up in Cypress with two younger sisters, both school teachers, and attended John F. Kennedy High School. He later studied at Cypress College before pursuing acting.

Stamos landed his first professional role as Blackie Parrish on the daytime soap General Hospital in 1982, a role he played until 1984 and for which he won two Soap Opera Digest Awards. In 1987, he began portraying Jesse Katsopolis on Full House, a role that defined his career for eight seasons. At his request, the writers changed the character’s last name to Katsopolis to highlight his Greek heritage.

Stamos expanded into music, playing drums with The Beach Boys since 1985 and directing their Hot Fun in the Summertime video. He showcased his musical talents on Broadway in 1995, playing J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying!

Stamos married model Rebecca Romijn on September 19, 1998; they divorced on March 1, 2005. He later began a relationship with Caitlin McHugh in 2015, becoming engaged on October 22, 2017, and marrying on February 3, 2018. They have a son, Billy Stamos, born April 15, 2018.

Stamos is close friends with radio personality Howard Stern and played drums at Stern’s wedding. He also purchased a Disneyland entrance sign for over $30,000.

John Stamos’s portrayal of Jesse Katsopolis on Full House became a cultural touchstone for the 1990s. He has performed as a drummer with The Beach Boys since 1985. In 2009, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television. His production company, St. Amos Productions, continues his work in the entertainment industry.
