Oscar Isaac.

Isaac’s family moved to Miami, Florida when he was five months old. He grew up in a diverse household; his mother is Guatemalan and his father a Cuban pulmonologist. At school, he was expelled from Westminster Christian for pranks such as setting off a fire extinguisher and defacing a mural. He later attended Santaluces Community High School and Miami Dade College before transferring to the Juilliard School, where he graduated in 2005. Before acting, he played lead guitar and sang vocals in the band The Blinking Underdogs.

Isaac’s first major film role was as Joseph in The Nativity Story 2006. His breakout came in 2013 when he starred as the title character in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, earning a Golden Globe nomination. In 2014, he appeared in two critically acclaimed films: the crime drama A Most Violent Year and the science fiction thriller Ex Machina. He then played Poe Dameron in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens 2015 and its sequel Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi 2017. In 2015, he headlined the HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero as politician Nick Wasicsko, which won him a Golden Globe. He also portrayed the supervillain Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse 2016.

Isaac has been in a relationship with Danish filmmaker Elvira Lind since 2012, and they have two sons together. He is a long-time friend of actor Pedro Pascal, his co-star in Triple Frontier 2019. He knits leopard-print sweaters for homeless cats and plays guitar.

His performance as Llewyn Davis earned a Golden Globe nomination, and his role as Poe Dameron became a fan favorite among Star Wars fans. He also portrayed the titular villain Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse, a character he had collected as a child. Isaac became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2016 and has since worked on both blockbusters and indie films. His leading role in Inside Llewyn Davis and his portrayal of Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy remain highlights of his career.
