Early life

Pedro Pascal was born José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal in Santiago, Chile, on April 2, 1975. His parents, Verónica Pascal and José Balmaceda, a medical professional, fled the brutal regime of Augusto Pinochet, moving to Denmark when Pascal was a baby and later to the United States. He was raised in Orange County, California, and San Antonio, Texas. He attended the Orange County School of the Arts and later graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1997. Before relocating to New York City, he also lived and worked in Madrid.

Career

Pascal’s early career included guest roles on series like Law & Order 1999 and The Mentalist 2008. His breakout came in 2014 as Oberyn Martell in the fourth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. He then played Javier Peña in the Netflix series Narcos 2015. In 2019, he took on the titular role in Disney+’s The Mandalorian, voicing and portraying Din Djarin. In 2023, he starred as Joel Miller in HBO’s The Last of Us, earning a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.

Personal life

Pascal has two siblings: Lux Pascal, an actress, and Javiera Balmaceda. He is close friends with Oscar Isaac, his co-star from Triple Frontier 2019, and Sarah Paulson. He has never married and has no children. He speaks fluent English and Spanish. His Starbucks order is six shots of pure espresso on ice, and he has a secret TikTok account.

Legacy
