Bette Davis made history as the first actor to receive ten Academy Award nominations. She won two Oscars for Best Actress: Dangerous 1935 and Jezebel 1938. Her performance in All About Eve 1950 earned another nomination and is ranked #5 on Premiere's 100 Greatest Performances. She defied studio restrictions, founded the Hollywood Canteen, and became a symbol of fierce independence. She died in 1989 of metastasized breast cancer at age 81.
